SVETI VLAS FILM FEST 2024

The film “Blaga’s Lessons” opens the third edition of “Sveti Vlas Film Fest”

One of the most anticipated summer film festivals – Sveti Vlas film fest, starts its third edition from July 3 to 7, 2024, in the resort town of Sveti Vlas. The glamorous event pays tribute to the richness and diversity of Bulgarian cinema.

The forum, which has established itself as a highlight in the cultural program of the resort, is organized by “Dinevi Group”, with the support of the National Film Center, the Municipality of Burgas, the Municipality of Nessebar and the Municipality of Saint Vlas.

Under the starry sky of Saint Vlas, spectators and guests of the Festival will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the authentic world of Bulgarian films, meet their favorite actors and experience unforgettable moments.

Five established filmmakers will be the strict judges who will evaluate the films in the competition program. The chairman of the jury this year is associate professor Dr. Deyan Statulov and members Bashar Rahal, Niki Iliev, Dimitar Gochev and Ivan Garelov. The selectors of the Festival are Prof. Dr. Nina Altparmakova and Toni Dobrinska. The director and beloved actor Marian Valev is the patron of the development of film art in the resort town and quite naturally is the inspiration of this festival.

The opening night of the festival starts at 9 p.m. on July 3 in the Arena amphitheater with the film “Lessons of Goodness” by Stefan Komandarev. The film won two Crystal Globe awards in Karlovy Vary, the Golden Rose and the Vasil Gendov SBFD award for best film and actress in a leading role. Actress Eli Skorcheva, who celebrates her 70th anniversary this year, will be a special guest.

The competition program also includes the films “Dyada”, directed by Yana Titova, “German Lessons”, directed by Pavel Vesnakov, “The Good Driver”, directed by Tonislav Rusev, “Because I Love Bad Weather”, directed by Yana Lekarska, “The Plague” , directed by Ivan Vladimirov, “Trap” directed by Nadezhda Koseva and “Trust Game” directed by Martin Makariev.
There will be special gala screenings of the films “Chalga” by Marian Valev and “The Pulse of the Dance” by Georgi Kostov, which are the out-of-competition program.

This year, the Jury members will also evaluate films from the Best Short Film Competition, which is held for the first time, and the works must be shot with a Samsung phone. The competition is aimed at anyone who has a passion for cinema and a desire to get involved, regardless of age, education and professional experience. The theme of the stories is A love encounter with an unexpected ending. The winners will be announced on July 6 (Saturday) at the awarding and closing ceremony of the Festival.

Sveti Vlas Film Fest is a dream come true, realized at the beginning of the summer of 2022, thanks to the journey and accumulated experience of the Dinevi Group company in the field of art and culture.

This year again, the jury of the Sveti Vlas Film Fest features a team of eminent cinema experts, including award-winning directors, famous actors and influential figures in the film industry.

Prof. Nina Altuppermakova
/ Chairman

Nina Altparmakova graduated from editing at NATFIZ “Krastyo Sarafov” in 1995. In 2010, he won the award for editing of the Bulgarian Film Academy for the film “City of Badante Women”, directed by Stefan Komandarev. She has directed the editing of over 100 feature films and documentaries, many of which have won awards, such as “The World is Big and Salvation Lurks Everywhere”, “Directions”, “In a Circle”, “The Lessons of Goodness” directed by Stefan Komandarev, “While Aya was sleeping” directed by Tsvetodar Markov, “Omelet” and “Irina”, dir. Nadezhda Koseva, “Bad Girl” and “Chalga” directed by Marian Valev, “18% Gray” directed by Viktor Chuchkov, “Exaltation” and “The naked truth about the Zhiguli group”, “Escape” directed by Victor Bozhinov. He is the editing director of the series “Undercover” and “Relationships”, “Guilts” and others. Since 1999, he has been teaching editing direction at NATFIZ “Krastio Sarafov”.

Bashar Rahal

Bulgarian actor, present in the ranks of the “Tear and Laughter” theater. Bashar Rahal became 100% recognizable by Bulgarian viewers after his participation in the series “Glass House”, he also received one of the main roles in the series “The Tree of Life”, and entered the house of the comedy series “House Arrest”. He also successfully coped with his role as the host of the popular sci-fi series “Great Mysteries” in Los Angeles, where he appeared in more than 20 American productions, among them “Unit”, “The Squad”, “Frozen Death” and one of the most the most watched and most expensive series of all time – “24”.

Niki-Iliev
Niki Iliev

Niki Iliev is the director and screenwriter of the films “The Foreigner”, “Living Legends”, “Knockout or Everything She Wrote”, “The Return”, “The Return Part 2” and “Wingless”, which is expected to premiere in 2024 .

Director of the TV series “House Arrest”, “Dear Heirs”, “Downtown Cops”, “The Closet”, “Brothers”, “With a River in the Heart” and “Walk of Fame”.

He participated as an actor in Bulgarian and foreign productions such as “Ashes on the Sun”, “The Pulse of the Dance”, “It’s Never Just Sex”, “The Foreigner”, “Living Legends”, “Return” and others.

Since 2015, he has been a main lecturer in film directing at the New Bulgarian University.

Димитър Гочев
Dimitar Gochev

Dimitar Gochev is a director and producer, among his projects are the films “Ave”, “Stoichkov”, “Revolution X”, as well as the series “Undercover”, “Glass House”.

Иван-Гарелов
Ivan Garelov

Bulgarian journalist and TV presenter. He started working as an editor in “Narodna Vladje” v., and then gained experience in BTA. In 1973, he joined BNT as a reporter. During these years, he realized a number of documentaries from hot spots on the planet.
