This year, the festival opens on July 2 with Stefan Komandarev’s film Made in E.U.
The fifth edition of the summer film festival Sveti Vlas Film Fest will welcome some of the most beloved names in Bulgarian cinema to the seaside resort town of Sveti Vlas from July 2 to July 5. The festival has established itself as one of the most significant cultural events on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast and continues to pursue its mission of showcasing high-quality contemporary Bulgarian cinema.
This year’s competition program features nine films. The festival will open on July 2 with “Made in E.U.” by Stefan Komandarev, winner of the Golden Rose Award. Other films in the selection include “Before I Forget” by Stanislav Donchev, “Brunch for Beginners” by Yana Titova, “3.0 Kilograms of Happiness” by Zornitsa-Sofia, “Lust” by Ralitsa Petrova, “Tale of a Mother and Son” by Dimitar Sardzhev, “Wild Strawberries” by Tatyana Pandurska, and “Star” by Kamen Stoyanov. The festival’s official closing event will take place on July 4 with the screening of “Birthday” by Ivaylo Penchev.
Members of several creative teams will attend in person to present their films and meet audiences in a relaxed and engaging festival atmosphere.
This year’s jury will be chaired by director Milko Lazarov, who received the Grand Prize of Sveti Vlas Film Fest last year for his film “The Herd.” The other jury members are director Pavel Vesnakov, actress Radina Kardzhilova, screenwriter and host of Bulgarian National Television’s cultural program “Kultura.bg”, Dimitar Stoyanovich, and animator Vladimir Todorov.
Starting this year, the festival’s Artistic Director and Film Selector is film critic Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deyan Statulov. Festival Director Daniela Dineva and beloved actor Marian Valev continue to be the driving forces and inspirations behind the event.
A special festival event will feature a presentation of L’EUROPEO magazine in memory of its publisher, Lyuben Dilov Jr.
